Standards Advisor

College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario

The College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario is the governing body for Psychologists, Psychological Associates, and Behaviour Analysts in Ontario. The College’s role is to regulate the provision of psychological and applied behaviour analysis in the public interest by setting the standards for competent and ethical practice. These regulatory activities include establishing entry-to-practice requirements, developing and promoting Practice Standards, supporting continuing competence, fostering professional engagement, and managing concerns related to professional conduct.

ROLE

The Standards Advisor provides accurate, relevant and timely information about legislation/regulations, the Standards of Professional Conduct, Codes of Ethics and other guidelines and resources to stakeholders; tracks, queries and analyses data to identify trends; produces education and communication materials and supports Working Group(s) and Working Group members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Answers inquiries related to relevant legislation, ethics, and the Standards of Professional Conduct received from registrants, the public and other stakeholders
  • Assists in the administration of the Standards Working Group and documentation
  • Contributes to development of communication and educational materials related to inquiries
  • Tracks and analyses query-related trends

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Advisory Duties

  1. Supports registrants, the public and other stakeholders by directing them to relevant legislation and regulations, the College’s Standards of Professional Conduct, relevant Codes of Ethics and other resources relevant to the practice of psychology and applied behaviour analysis, by:
  • Responds to inquiries received by telephone or email;
  • Conducts research on practice-related information and maintains an up-to-date archive of information/resources for reference and distribution;
  • Supports organizational consultations on issues related to psychology and applied behaviour analysis;
  • Consults with relevant stakeholders on emerging issues; and
  • Makes recommendations regarding the need for amendments to the Standards based on frequent inquiries and emerging areas of risk.

2. Communication, Education and Research

  • Creates communication and educational materials including website FAQs, newsletter articles, reports and briefing notes;
  • Identifies and researches key practice issues that require College review and action;.
  • Develops registrant surveys and analyzes feedback.

3. Maintenance of Queries Database

  • Documents all responses in the appropriate database, ensuring the information is accurate and current
  • Provides accurate statistical information for use in program monitoring, review and development
  • Works with IT stakeholders to make improvements to the Queries Database to meet program needs

Working Group Support

  • Makes recommendations regarding the need for amendments to the Standards based on frequent inquiries and emerging areas of risk
  • Canvases Working Group members’ availability for meetings and conflicts of interest
  • Coordinates Working Group meeting schedule to support identified workload and goals
  • Assists in the preparation and distribution of meeting materials (agendas, briefing notes, data analytics, etc.)
  • Records and facilitates approval of meeting minutes as needed
  • Prepares per diem payments

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains, documents and improves standard operating procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in related area
  • Experience in regulatory, healthcare or professional environment
  • Policy and research experience is an asset
  • Experience with AI an asset
  • Fluency in French an asset

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

  • Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, SharePoint, Teams, etc.)
  • Ability to adapt to internal software and programs
  • Working knowledge of the legislation, regulations, Standards, ethical codes and guidelines for psychology and applied behaviour analysis
  • Ability to interpret complex issues and summarize them succinctly
  • Ability to synthesize large volumes of data
  • Ability to explain complex concepts using plain language and knowledge transfer principles
  • Ability to create educational content such as decision-support tools, infographics, guidance documents
  • Basic knowledge of Lean principles is an asset
