Seeking Community Appointee – Finance and Audit Committee

Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers

We are seeking Ontario residents (who are not registrants of the College or Council members) to serve as Community Appointees on the Finance and Audit Committee. This is for an annual term beginning September 2024.

The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (the College) regulates over 29,000 social workers and social service workers in Ontario, with an ongoing mandate to serve and protect the public interest. Established in 2000 under the Social Work and Social Service Work Act, 1998, we are accountable to the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

The Finance and Audit Committee oversees and/or makes recommendations to Council on matters related to the College’s financial and asset management, including:

  • The annual operating budget and audit.
  • Internal financial controls.
  • Financial policies and fiscal plans.
  • Policies for the investment of funds.

We are specifically looking for an individual who possesses financial expertise and a commitment to acting in the public interest.

We strive to create an inclusive environment that reflects the diversity of our registrants and the individuals, families and communities they serve. As part of these efforts, the College encourages applications from members of the community who are proficient/fluent in French and from other equity-deserving groups – including those who are Indigenous, members of visible minorities, persons living with disabilities and/or women.

As a Community Appointee, you will:

  • Contribute to the governance of the College.
  • Assist the College in fulfilling its public protection mandate.
  • Receive a per diem honorarium and reimbursement of all reasonable related travel, accommodation, and meal expenses.

Apply online by Friday, August 30, 2024. Applications will only be accepted through the online portal on the College’s website.

Please note that the number of available positions for Community Appointees is limited by College’s governing legislation, bylaws and policies.

Applicants will be notified after the September Council meeting if they have been appointed to serve. Join us in making a difference!

If you require Code-protected accommodation at any time during the application process or if you are seeking alternatives to apply to this position due to a requirement, email us at oor@ocswssw.org with subject line “Become a Community Appointee” or call 416-972-9882/877-828-9380 x422.
