Executive Director – Alliance of Canadian Dietetic Regulatory Bodies

The Alliance of Canadian Dietetic Regulatory Bodies (the Alliance) is seeking a strategic Executive Director (ED) to lead the daily operations of our national, regulatory-focused organization. This newly created role presents an exciting opportunity for a creative and innovative leader to shape the position, drive innovation, and implement strategic initiatives that strengthen dietetic regulation across Canada.

About Us

The Alliance unites ten independent regulatory bodies, collectively overseeing more than 13,000 Registered Dietitians across Canada. The Alliance addresses national regulatory challenges, develops frameworks to ensure consistent standards of practice and public protection, and provides tools and guidance to member organizations. Its work includes supporting accreditation of educational programs, facilitating labour mobility, engaging with external stakeholders, and administering the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination (CDRE). Through these initiatives, the Alliance plays a vital role in advancing the quality, consistency, and integrity of dietetic practice nationwide.

The Position

This ED role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of the Alliance. The ED will provide strategic leadership and oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with the Board’s strategic priorities. Working closely with the Chair and Board of Directors, the ED will lead key initiatives that strengthen organizational capacity and support sustainable growth, while ensuring alignment with the Alliance’s strategic priorities. The role also includes system partner engagement and oversight of contracted consultants and service providers, offering a chance to build a culture of collaboration and excellence in delivering the Alliance’s mandate.

Position Package

  • Salary 100,000 to 110,000
  • Remote work from anywhere in Canada. 35 hours per week
  • Compensation in lieu of benefits
  • 4 weeks paid vacation

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership, Governance, and Project Management

  • Collaborates with the Board to define and refine the organization’s vision and strategic plan.
  • Develops and updates the annual work plan to implement strategic priorities and respond to emerging opportunities or challenges.
  • Leads the planning, execution, and evaluation of projects.
  • Prepares, reviews, and recommends policies for Board consideration and approval.
  • Keeps the Board fully informed of internal developments and external factors that could impact regulatory practice across Canada.

Operational Planning and Management

  • Leads administration and ongoing development of the national CDRE, ensuring validity, reliability, and smooth operations in collaboration with exam development experts and partners.
  • Provides proactive executive support to the Board and its committees to facilitate effective governance and decision-making.
  • Plans and coordinates the Annual General Meeting.
  • Oversees financial management, including budgeting, reporting, and the annual audit.
  • Monitors performance and cash flow, identifies risks, and recommends mitigation strategies.

Partner Relations and Communications

  • Cultivates and strengthens relationships with key partners, including dietetic associations, education programs, and the 3rd-party accreditation provider.
  • Serves as the primary contact for the Alliance.
  • Oversees all communications ensuring clear, consistent, and strategic messaging.
  • Leads the development and management of information systems, including the website and a centralized platform for CDRE applications and exam administration.

Skills & Qualifications

  • A university degree in a relevant field such as public administration, health administration, regulatory affairs, public policy, business administration, or a related discipline.
  •  Demonstrated leadership experience in an organization of similar size to the Alliance, including experience as a member of an executive leadership team.
  • Registered Dietitian licensure in Canada is an asset.
  • Strong communicator with experience in public presentations, facilitation, and meetings.
  • Skilled in translating strategic visions into actionable plans.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with the Board, key partners, and the broader community.
  • Experienced in facilitation and building consensus among stakeholders with diverse perspectives.
  • Proficient in conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office 365; comfortable with audio/video technologies.
  • Strong written and spoken French is an asset.
