Compliance Officer- Temporary

Real Estate Council of Ontario

The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) is seeking a Compliance Officer to support administration of its Complaints Program. We have three (3) temporary positions available for an immediate start.

Hybrid work environment

The Role

Are you a curious and analytical puzzle solver? Are you interested in getting to the truth during a case analysis? Do you possess strong writing and interpersonal communication skills? Consider joining RECO as a Compliance Officer.

The Compliance Officer role at RECO is a critical and exciting one that forms the overall foundation of our regulatory mandate. You will blend analytic problem-solving skills with effective interviewing and communication skills to investigate complaints and manage case files. As a subject matter expert, you will provide information and guidance to the public and real estate agents on all manners of inquiries and complaints, monitoring problem areas and trends for compliance, and participate in other related regulatory tasks.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Analyze assigned complaints and respond to inquiries; gather information or documents relating to the complaint, and interview the parties to the complaint, as required; ensure proper correspondence is sent to all parties.
  • Monitor complaints processes and paperwork for assigned complaints to ensure they are performed in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Provide fulsome and accurate case summary memos with well-reasoned, evidence-supported recommendations.
  • Identify trending areas or concerns to be investigated by investigation staff and/or attempt RECO dispute resolution, as applicable.
  • Ensure the availability of up-to-date information on all inquiries and complaints by correct and timely input of information to RECO’s database.
  • Liaise with the RECO Inspections, Investigation, and Registration teams when referring cases requiring additional regulatory action.
  • Liaise with RECO legal counsel, as required, on complaint files that have been referred to RECO’s Discipline Committee for a hearing.
  • When required, attend discipline hearings as a witness, on behalf of RECO.
  • Draft decision correspondence.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002 (TRESA), and a general knowledge of other legislation affecting real estate in the province.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of adaptability, and receptivity to continuous learning.
  • Demonstrated strong investigative, analytical/judgment, mediation/negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of TRESA, administrative law, and the procedures of Statutory Tribunals.
  • Experience with real estate transactions, industry practices, and related documents.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision and work in a mostly remote team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Case Management software.

Range: $65,600- $82,000
