Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) is the business name for the Association of BC Forest Professionals. Forest Professionals BC regulates the practice of forestry in BC. It is governed by a board of directors composed of eight elected registrants and four members appointed by the provincial government. Forest Professionals BC falls under the provincial Professional Governance Act (PGA) and is overseen by the Office of the Superintendent of Professional Governance (OSPG) within the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.
THE JOB IN BRIEF
Opportunities to step into a key leadership role at Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) are rare. If you are at a point in your career where it is the right time to take on a challenging senior role we encourage you to explore this opportunity.
Forest Professionals BC is a small organization with a big heart. We value the contributions of every member of our staff; and our leadership team models the vision and concepts of a collaborative and interdependent working environment. The CCO directs the work of a small staff, however, the position’s focus is broad — involving a strong cooperative working relationship with Forest Professionals BC directors. The CCO is the most senior member of the leadership team and steps up to perform the functions of the CEO and Registrar, assuming full authority, when required, of the corporate leader.
Notwithstanding the harmonious working environment, let’s not overlook what this position is accountable for. First and foremost, the position actively leads the decision-making regarding complaints against registrants and oversees related processes and policy standards. This function will most effectively be carried out by an individual who is familiar with registration and compliance requirements for Registered Professional Foresters (RPF) in British Columbia. It is advantageous, therefore, to possess an RPF designation, although not an essential requirement.
This scope of experience (i.e., compliance oversight) is prominent in other fields of endeavour and therefore, we will consider applications for this position from individuals who have a strong background in compliance oversight in areas outside of forestry.
In addition to educational and professional requirements, you will need to be an insightful and critical decision-maker and problem-solver, demonstrating both impartiality as well as adherence to the regulatory structure that guides forestry work in BC. When conflicts arise, you will show your strengths in negotiation, issues management, and consensus building. While the compliance situations you will encounter may be complex, your background and experience in a comparable capacity will aid in your success when addressing these situations.
Finally, you will contribute to the regulatory and policy structure that is the backbone of the Forest Professionals BC compliance processes by advancing policy, developing proposals and briefings for the CEO and Registrar, Board members, and statutory committees, and generally guiding and advising on the corporate framework for compliance. You will represent Forest Professionals BC in a positive manner, even when situations may be volatile, highly charged, or stressful.
This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team, with a province-wide public-facing mandate contributing to the safety of the public and protection of the environment.
Forest Professionals BC’s head office is in Vancouver but remote work options may be considered for candidates located in other BC cities, subject to considerations such as travel ease, technology reliability, and local amenities.
The full details and expectations of the role are contained in the position description.
