About me

Dear Hiring Committee,

I am pleased to apply for the Hearing Panel Support and Decision Editor position with FP Canada. As a Law Society of Ontario–licensed paralegal with more than ten years of experience in legal support, labour relations, tribunal matters, document management, and regulated corporate transactions, I offer a strong combination of procedural knowledge, legal writing, records management, and stakeholder coordination.

In my current role as Director, Corporate Trust with Odyssey Corporate Trust, I review legal documents, work directly with client counsel to close complex escrow, warrant, and debt transactions, manage client relationships, and oversee associates responsible for maintaining completed files. This work requires careful review of legal records, sound judgment, strict attention to procedural requirements, and the ability to manage sensitive matters involving multiple legal and business stakeholders.

Previously, as Legal Assistant with the University of Toronto Faculty Association, I supported legal operations involving grievances, arbitration, collective agreement interpretation, member advocacy, and bargaining. I coordinated files, meetings, invoicing, document production, research, and deadline management while serving as a primary point of contact for members and legal stakeholders. I developed bring-forward and reminder systems to prevent missed deadlines, managed cloud-based member and document systems, prepared metrics reports, and supported procedural improvements within the legal department.

This experience aligns closely with FP Canada’s need for someone who can coordinate hearing schedules, complete conflict checks, organize panel materials, maintain hearing records, support virtual proceedings, and ensure compliance with procedural timelines. I am comfortable managing high-volume files, competing deadlines, confidential information, and communications with panel members, counsel, parties, and members of the public.

My legal drafting and research background would also support the decision-editing responsibilities of the role. Through my work in labour relations, family law, small claims, and landlord and tenant matters, I have reviewed complex records, researched legislation and legal authorities, drafted hearing briefs, pleadings, submissions, correspondence, case conference materials, and internal collective agreement language, and summarized information for legal and executive decision-makers. As an independent paralegal, I prepare clients for Landlord and Tenant Board proceedings, organize evidence, respond to opposing materials, and provide procedural guidance.

I also bring direct experience supporting governance and decision-making bodies. As a past president and executive member of the Canadian Organization of Faculty Association Staff, I have chaired meetings, coordinated agendas and logistics, prepared materials, supported policy discussions, recorded organizational decisions, and followed up on action items. In addition, my experience documenting bargaining sessions, analyzing proposals, and tracking outstanding items has strengthened my ability to capture detailed instructions accurately and convert complex discussions into clear written records.

I am highly proficient with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat, Google Workspace, DocuSign, NetDocuments, Advologix, and other legal and cloud-based records-management systems. I have also led system implementations, developed workflows and templates, trained staff, and supported ongoing process improvement.

Although much of my regulatory and tribunal experience has been gained through legal practice, unionized environments, corporate trust work, and proceedings before the Landlord and Tenant Board rather than directly within a professional oversight body, the core requirements of this position closely reflect my background. I understand the importance of procedural fairness, accurate records, impartial communication, confidentiality, timely follow-up, and clear, well-supported written decisions.

I would welcome the opportunity to contribute my legal knowledge, tribunal support experience, organizational skills, and commitment to professional standards to FP Canada. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my experience can support FP Canada’s Hearing and Appeal Panels and broader regulatory mandate.

Sincerely,

Crystal Doyle
