Building connections that matter: The value of networking in the regulatory sector

Building connections that matter: The Value of networking in the regulatory sector

Protecting the public is complex, evolving, and deeply collaborative. No single regulator or organization has all the answers. That’s why conferences, seminars, forums, and professional development events have become essential spaces for connection, shared learning, and innovation.

Why networking matters for regulators

Networking in the regulatory sector goes far beyond exchanging business cards. It’s about strengthening the profession’s collective ability to serve the public. Events like conferences and workshops create opportunities to share approaches to licensing, continuous competence, governance, and public trust. They also provide a chance to learn from wider shifts in technology, society, and policy.

Relationships built in these settings often extend long after the event. A conversation over coffee may evolve into a joint initiative, a panel discussion may spark a mentorship, and connections made in sessions may turn into lifelong professional partnerships.

Key events shaping the regulatory conversation

Across Canada and internationally, regulators and sector partners are investing in conferences and workshops to build connections and exchange knowledge and strengthen their collective impact.

  • CLEAR (Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation)– A global hub for regulators, bringing together professionals across sectors to discuss enforcement, mobility, and governance. Its most recent gathering, the 2025 Annual Educational Conference, was held in Chicago and drew regulators from around the world.
  • CNAR (Canadian Network of Agencies for Regulation) – Canada’s largest annual regulatory conference, offering sessions on governance, complaints, investigations, cultural humility, and emerging trends. The upcoming 18th Annual CNAR Conference, “Achieving Regulatory Excellence Together,” will take place in Calgary, Alberta, from October 20–22, 2025.

Alongside these, many individual colleges, associations, and regulatory-focused organizations host seminars, symposia, and training events that bring together regulators, registrants, and system partners.

The focus is on helping regulators make clear, informed decisions about adoption, oversight, and implementation. Attendees can expect insights into the current AI landscape, frameworks for governance, case studies from regulators experimenting with AI, and opportunities to connect with peers across Canada and internationally. The event also features a pre-conference training on AI and regulatory governance with The Regulator’s Practice, and The Regulator’s Table, a networking reception ahead of the main event.
