THE ROLE
We are seeking a skilled and strategic Account Lead, Communications to oversee a portfolio of client accounts and lead an internal, multidisciplinary team of hardworking, empowered, and dedicated professionals.
We anticipate an early 2026 start date.
Reporting to the Director, Communications Strategy, this role will serve as the primary point of contact for communications clients, ensuring timely, high-quality, and impactful delivery of our services.
This is a future-facing, full-time position for anticipated recruitment in late 2025 or early 2026. The ideal candidate is an experienced project leader with a background in communications, public relations, marketing, or client services. They are someone who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and is deeply motivated by work that advances the public good.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership
- Lead a small, high-performing team of professionals across digital, design, and writing disciplines, ensuring clarity of roles, timely execution, and shared accountability for excellence.
- Provide day-to-day coaching, performance feedback, and mentorship to ensure team development and project delivery meet MDR’s highest standards.
- Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven culture grounded in MDR’s values of equity, transparency, and community impact.
Client and Account Management
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for a diverse portfolio of accounts, representing MDR with confidence, professionalism, and strategic insight.
- Lead the end-to-end planning and execution of client projects, from discovery and strategy development to content creation and final delivery.
- Partner with MDR’s project manager to coordinate workback schedules, budget tracking, deliverable approvals, and quality assurance across client accounts.
- Lead client meetings and presentations with clarity and authority, distilling complex information into actionable insights and progress updates.
- Manage invoicing and billing cycles accurately and on time
- Proactively identify client needs, opportunities for account growth, and ways MDR can deliver even greater value.
Internal Collaboration and Strategic Alignment
- Act as the key link between client needs and internal resources, ensuring strategic alignment between project objectives, communications outcomes, and public interest goals.
- Collaborate with the Director, Communications Strategy and other senior team members on campaign strategy, content direction, and client planning.
- Uphold and champion MDR’s commitment to equity, accessibility, and inclusive communications across all deliverables and interactions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal systems, templates, and tools to support scalable, high-impact account delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS
An ideal candidate, you are an emerging leader in the communications field with a strong grasp of project management, relationship building, and creative execution. You’re equally comfortable running a kickoff meeting with a new client, reviewing copy edits with a junior team member, and updating a Gantt chart to realign timelines with our project manager. You’re calm under pressure, solutions-oriented, and always three steps ahead. You care deeply about work that serves the public good and reflects inclusive values.
Specifically, your portfolio of credentials and experience include the following:
- Minimum 5 years of experience working, preferably in an agency or consulting firm
- Previous account management and client interaction required
- Strong background in communications, marketing, or public engagement.
- Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional teams and delivering multi-platform campaigns.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build trust with clients and colleagues.
- Exceptional organizational skills, with meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to meeting deadlines without compromising quality.
- Strong financial literacy and comfort managing budgets.
- Experience working with public sector, regulatory, or mission-driven organizations is an asset.

CONDITIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Compensation will be in the 70-90K range, commensurate with experience, and reflective of MDR Strategy Group’s commitment to equity in compensation.
