Under the general direction of the Senior Director, Nursing Regulatory Affairs this position is responsible for developing, obtaining, and maintaining State Board of Nursing approvals in designated states for current and future locations. This position is responsible for the development and maintenance of relationships with boards of nursing and regulatory staff in assigned states. This position serves as a liaison to campus Deans for Board of Nursing responses to program events, completion of annual reports, and ongoing reapproval/reaccreditation.
• Establishes and develops state regulatory agency relationships to support short-term and long-term strategic plans for campus expansion consistent with, mission, vision, and values at the College.
• Manages State Board of Nursing approval processes including subject matter expertise for regulatory information, timing of submission, board of nursing meeting attendance, and site visit requirements.
• Communicates with board of nursing education consultants as needed to clarify requirements, processes, and procedures of rules and regulations.
• In collaboration with nursing regulatory affairs team and College, prepares and submits letters of intent, feasibility studies, self-studies, applications, and associated reports needed to achieve program approval and meet ongoing regulatory compliance requirements for designated states.
• Travels to and regularly attends State Board of Nursing meetings and campus site visits in designated states.
• Provides subject matter expertise in the review of education programs and institutional policies and practices to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Advises, guides, and participates in the implementation of “mock” internal regulatory assessments and site visits for campus expansion and ongoing program approvals.
• Assists campus Dean of Nursing in Board of Nursing response to program events, completing annual reports, reapproval/ reaccreditation submissions, and preparing for board of nursing site visits.
• Develops and maintains a monitoring system for ongoing reporting of State Board of Nursing regulatory requirements for existing and future locations in collaboration with the Nursing Regulatory Affairs team.
• In the absence of the Senior Director, assumes temporary oversight for nursing regulatory affairs.
Other Duties as Assigned
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required; Master’s degree in nursing required; Doctorate in a relevant discipline strongly preferred.
• Current unencumbered RN license or compact RN license privilege to practice nursing in the Commonwealth or States of responsibility.
• Minimum three to five years of experience as a leader and/or faculty in Nursing Academic Program or Healthcare setting
• Minimum of three to five years of relevant experience working with state Boards of Nursing
• Expertise in state pre-licensure nursing program approval process
• Experience with assessment and regulatory processes required
• Experience with programmatic accreditation required
• Strong critical thinking skills to assess state requirements that may not be explicit
• Must possess excellent negotiation, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong organizational, writing, editing, and computer skills
• Self-directed leader who can manage to strict timelines while delivering quality output
• Desire to work in a fast-paced, growing organization with high standards of performance
