Director, Professional Affairs

The College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario is looking to fill the position of Director, Professional Affairs.

CPBAO is the governing body for psychology and applied behaviour analysis in Ontario. The College’s role is to regulate these professions in the public interest by setting the standards for competent and ethical practice. These regulatory activities include establishing entry-to-practice requirements, developing and promoting Practice Standards, supporting continuing competence, fostering professional engagement, and managing concerns related to professional conduct.

We are located at Yonge and Eglinton in mid-town Toronto. This is a full-time position which operates in a hybrid environment.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director, Professional Affairs is responsible for leading all aspects of the development and delivery of the College’s Quality Assurance, Client Relations and Professional Practice programs. The Director ensures that the College is meeting its legislated and policy-directed Quality Assurance requirements for all registrants. As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Director, Professional Affairs participates in, and contributes to, regular senior team meetings and strategic planning activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides objective and senior-level advice, analysis and recommendations on key issues
  • Monitors trends in professional regulation to identify approaches to modernize the Quality Assurance Program, the Standards of Professional Conduct, and Practice Advice to best protect the public interest
  • Ensures compliance of the department with all applicable legislation
  • Policy and program development, including the support of working groups
  • Member/Registrant development, including College-governed educational seminars
  • Leads and supervises a team of staff
  • Committee Support, particularly Quality Assurance and Client Relations

QUALIFICTATIONS

Education/Experience

  • At least eight years’ experience in a leadership position in professional regulation, healthcare or higher education.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario health regulatory system and privacy legislation
  • Master’s degree in relevant field: psychology, applied behaviour analysis, health policy, public policy/administration, health administration/management, business administration, law, or a related discipline
  • Registration with CPBAO is considered an asset

Demonstrated Skills

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Proven management, supervisory, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team framework
  • Able to work under pressure and to meet relevant deadlines
  • Able to develop and implement strategic changes in the areas of professional practice, policy, and education

  • Registrar & Executive Director
